The next modification after IAI-1123 was the Model 1124 Westwind, which made its maiden flight on July 21, 1975. It featured a new power plant based on two economical turbofan engines Garrett AiResearch TFE731-Z-1G with 16.50 kN each, as well as improved wing, landing gear, avionics and flight systems. The machine's maximum takeoff weight increased to 10,660 kg and its range increased by 33%. Fifty of these aircraft were sold.

The Model 1124 Westwind 1 was launched in 1978 with a slightly revised design, most importantly a 382 gallon fuel tank in the forward cargo area. In addition, the cabin volume was increased by about 5%, and the RCA Primus 400 weather radar with color indicator was used as standard equipment. Again, most of the 116 aircraft of the new model were sold in the USA, with the cockpit equipment, avionics installation and painting being done in the USA. Four Westwind 1s were delivered to the German company Rhein-Flugzeugbau (MBB), where they were used as target tugs for the German Armed Forces.

Parallel to the development and production of civilian Westwinds, IAI developed the maritime patrol variant Model 1124N Sea Scan (or Coastwatch). The prototype was based on one of the Israeli Air Force's Model 1123 aircraft and made its maiden flight in August 1978. Between 1979 and 1981, the Israeli Navy received three such aircraft, distinguished by subwing assemblies for the suspension of various weapons and equipment, Litton Industries APS-504(V)2 search radar installed in the nose, the Omega navigation system, modern radio communication system (VHF/UHF), operator workstations equipped with blisters and the ability to carry a variety of additional equipment, including magnetometer, TV cameras for low light levels, etc. The aircraft could carry torpedoes or Gabriel III SQMs. The range of the machine at a low altitude of about 900 m in search mode reached 2426 km, which allowed during the flight to "treat" an area of about 268034 km2. At high altitudes the flight range of the aircraft increased to 4597 km, and the flight time at an altitude of 13715 m at a speed of 832 km/hour reached eight hours, in the appointed area the flight speed could go down to 259 km/hour.

In April 1979, a new version of the Model 1124A Westwind 2, the latest member of the Westwind family, optimized for operation in hot climates and mountainous conditions, was flown. The aircraft was equipped with a new wing with winglets developed by NASA over the end fuel tanks. The 4X-SMK prototype was rebuilt from the early production Model 1124 Westwind, and after testing and certification, the first machine was delivered to a customer in May 1980, the Colombian company Hélocol. Production of the Westwind 2 continued until 1987, after the delivery of more than 50 machines their assembly was discontinued.
