The cost of a private flight

The air broker can tell the final cost of a private flight from Italy to European countries or other foreign countries only after determining the key parameters of the flight. The price of the flight depends on:

• The planned number of passengers;
• Business jet class. The cost is affected by the capacity of the aircraft, its cruising speed, the level of equipment on board, the flight range without refueling, fuel consumption, the year of production of the liner, and other factors;
• Flight season – it is more profitable to rent a business jet in advance before the start of the holiday season since the increasing demand for the service increases its cost, and the number of available aircraft significantly decreases;
• Flight route and distance;
• Duration of parking on the territory of the destination airport. Business jets are often immediately rented in both directions for business flights. In this case, the cost of the service includes parking and maintenance of the aircraft at the point of arrival;
• Service level. The cost of the flight can be increased if it is necessary to organize escort, security or to fulfill individual orders of the client, such as buying tickets for events, renting housing, etc.

Stages of preparation for flight on the Global 5000

After submitting the application, the organization of the flight takes place in 4 stages:

1. The first is flight planning. Flight requests are sent, and private planes suitable for the client's requirements are selected. As a rule, initially, we send 3-6 options to the client. If one of them responds to you, we will book a business jet, and if not, we will adjust and continue the search. The technical department deals with security issues, and the legal department controls all the international subtleties of flight organization;
2. A contract is concluded with the client. The contract prescribes the duties and responsibilities of the parties, the date of departure, the level of service, additional services. It is mandatory to indicate the cost of the flight and payment terms;
3. The third stage involves providing a flight. The team of air brokers responsible for the organization of the flight repeatedly checks requests for take-off and landing of aircraft and for parking at the airport. Specialists are also responsible for receiving slots, submitting requests to aviation services, to VIP halls, catering on board, transfer;
4. The fourth stage is the private flight itself. A personal aviation consultant is engaged in passenger registration, ordering passes. The broker has all the relevant information about the status of the flight and will help you go through all the procedures in an accelerated version.

Bombardier Global 5000: the "killer" of the G450

Exceptional range, speed and cabin comfort are the main reasons why business jet operators decide to buy the Bombardier Global 5000 after operating smaller, slower, comparatively shorter-range business jets. It simply meets all requirements. 

Passengers get one of the most spacious cabins in its class along with a noise level of 53 dB, the lowest barometric altitude in the cockpit and the comfortable behavior of the aircraft in turbulent conditions thanks to the flexible wing design. Takeoff performance, autobraking and automated systems are also priority features of the Global 5000 aircraft for business jet operators. Departure reliability remains virtually unmatched, and the level of technical support, as noted by operators, has increased dramatically. 

Despite its 81 cm shorter fuselage, the Global 5000 aircraft are built on the same line as the Global Express and Global 6000 at the Bombardier facility in Toronto, allowing for lower assembly costs. These savings have allowed Bombardier to reduce the cost of the Global 5000 by $10 million compared to the Global Express, immediately bringing the program to profitability when deliveries begin in 2005. These savings have also allowed the Global 5000 aircraft to retain all of the Global Express' advanced design features, including four power-driven generators, solid state automatic breakers, triple redundant hydraulic system, dual air conditioning units and automated systems. 

True, the reduction in fuselage length leads to some compromises. It is the loss of space under the cabin floor to place the avionics near the cockpit, so Bombardier followed the Gulfstream way and placed the avionics units on the ceiling; the equipment cabinet is located directly behind the cockpit. The crew recreation area had to be abandoned. The kitchen was reduced in size and divided into left and right sections. In total, the length of the cabin was reduced almost by 180 cm, but the passenger area lost only 25 cm of usable space. 

The original fuel tank capacity was 16,208 kg, which was enough to fly a distance of 7,720 km at a cruising speed of 0.85M with a reserve according to NBAA IFR rules. However, operators stressed that this fuel reserve would not be enough to fly from Europe to the west coast of the United States and land with a comfortable fuel reserve. Therefore, in 2007, Bombardier issued service bulletin 700-1A11-11-008, which included a $1 million refueling system upgrade that increased fuel tank capacity by 1,380 kg, resulting in an 805 km longer range. 

Cabin layout options

Most aircraft have a standard Preferred cabin layout. In front of the front door is a cabinet with avionics and equipment behind the co-pilot's seat, a starboard forward lavatory with a window and vacuum lavatory and a separate left and right side kitchen. In front of the entry door on the left side is a storage compartment for a tight acoustic curtain to cover the door during the flight, as well as a closet for the crew outerwear, outlets and storage areas for other supplies. The 82.6 m long main passenger cabin is divided into three sections, including a forward section with four seats, a conference group on the port side and a pillar on the right side in the middle of the cabin, an aft section with two seats facing each other, on the port and starboard side, and a three-seat sofa. Some aircraft are equipped with three individual seats in the mid-cabin and/or a three-seat, 80-inch sofa aft. 

A solid partition separates the aft section from the mid-cabin. NetJets' Signature Series aircraft are equipped with a crew toilet behind the co-pilot's seat, one lounge seat and a compact left side kitchen at the front of the aircraft. The passenger cabin has a club section with four seats, a four-seat conference group and a bollard in the middle of the cabin. 

With all equipment and three crew members, the weight of these planes is 23,500-23,590 kg. Even so, a business jet can still carry up to eight people, with a full supply of fuel. Almost all Global 5000 aircrafts are equipped with a tailgate lavatory with two windows on the port side, a vacuum lavatory and a storage compartment for miscellaneous supplies on the left side. Passengers have access to the tail luggage compartment through a rear door in the tail lavatory.

Top features

On the list of operator favorites, the Global 5000 aircraft's unmatched takeoff and landing performance trumps cabin comfort. Compared to the Falcon 900LX and Gulfstream G450 business jets, the Bombardier aircraft actually has slower take-off and landing speeds; in addition, it requires a shorter runway for comparable distances. 

For example, with a range of 1,850 km it would need 823 m for takeoff and 670 m for landing. The required takeoff distance for a flight of 5,560 km is 1,160 m under standard conditions. According to the operators, on relatively short routes the aircraft climbs to a cruising altitude of FL430-450, on long-haul flights the flight altitude is FL410-430. On normal days at a cruising speed of 0.85 M, which is equivalent to 903 km/h, operators plan fuel consumption of 2,267 kg in the first hour of flight, 1,814 kg in the second hour and 1,360 kg for each additional hour for short- and medium-range flights. For long-haul flights, fuel consumption drops to 998-1,133 kg/h by the end of the flight. 

Pilots flying aging aircraft equipped with Honeywell Primus 2000XP avionics say the systems are quite reliable, despite their age. They give their instrument panel a good rating, but not an excellent one. By comparison, pilots who fly aircraft with Rockwell Collins Vision instrument panels give their avionics kits the highest marks. But some pilots who have switched from Primus 2000XP avionics to Vision have noted difficulty adapting to the touch-screen GUI with its many tabs in the menus. Some pilots praise the aircraft for the powerful braking force provided by the durable carbon brake discs. 

Flight attendants note that the air set is rated for 200 to 215 landings, with the carbon brake discs showing no signs of wear over the long years of operation. Pilots also appreciate the smooth deceleration of the aircraft after landing provided by the automatic braking system. This feature, along with approach speeds of 198 to 213 km/h, takes the strain out of landing on short runways. 

Virtually all operators praise the aircraft for its smooth flight, impressively low noise level and roomy cabin. Its total volume, not counting the cockpit, is 57.8 m3. With the most spacious cabin in its class, the Global 5000 has 51 cm wide seats in the club section and 46 cm wide seats in the conference section. The cabin is well lit with 10 portholes on each side of the cabin. Later models are equipped with 14 starboard portholes, including windows in the fore and aft lavatories. 

To starboard is a single Type II emergency exit in the center of the cabin. Bombardier's technical and aftermarket support generally gets positive feedback from operators. Of course, Bombardier's level of support so far falls short of that provided by Embraer and Gulfstream, but operators say long delays in parts deliveries are infrequent. "Seven years ago, I would have rated the support at a three or even two because we suffered because of it. Our management didn't trust the aircraft because of it," says one of the company's Fortune 100 pilots. - But now the level of support is much higher.
