The new toothed nacelles for the engines of the 787 will reduce noise levels for both passengers and observers from the ground over whom the airliner will be flying. Even the propeller blades inside the engines have been designed for quieter operation.

One of the most innovative systems for passenger comfort on the 787 is the computer-controlled turbulence suppression system. Boeing claims that their Smoother Ride Technology will reduce the number of passengers getting carsick by a factor of eight. There are special sensors throughout the plane that pick up changes in air pressure, which is one of the signs of turbulence.
