The harsh reality of owning a business jet is that it is an asset that depreciates over time. An upgrade to the G650ER will cost the owner of the original G650 about $2m. The business jet upgrade option takes a week.

Round-the-world voyage at high speed

On July 1, 2013, at 9:08 p.m., the 37,614-kilometer round-the-world flight was launched in four legs.
The first leg of the route between San Diego and Guam was a risky flight almost completely crossing the Pacific Ocean. The G650 completed the flight in 10 hours and 20 minutes with a temporary stopover of 30 minutes for refueling.
The second leg was Guam-Dubai-Central Al Maktoum, which was completed after 10 hours, after refueling the G650 took off and after 8 hours and 52 minutes landed at Amilcar Cabral International Airport in Cape Verde, Africa. On the final leg, the six crew members returned from Africa to San Diego in 10 hours and 10 minutes. Overall, the circumnavigation lasted 41 hours and 7 minutes, setting a new world record for the fastest westbound flight in a supersonic aircraft.

The Gulfstream flagship demonstrated not only its capabilities as an intercontinental aircraft, but also its ability to perform fast maintenance (a total of 1.5 hours for three refueling operations!).

So, this is not the first record the G650 has broken - some time after its first deliveries, it broke 16 speed records, between geographic locations important to the business aviation market.

Until recently, the G650 beat the performance of the Cessna Citation X, with a top reported speed of Mach 0.925. Cessna wasted no time in responding, announcing in October that they had confirmed a Mach 0.935 speed with the New Citation X. Since then, the Textron subsidiary has been offering the world's fastest civilian aircraft. In any case, this competition does not cast a shadow on the Savannah aircraft carrier, some justifiably believe that the two aircraft are not comparable in any way, since they come from diametrically opposed segments.

In 1987, the manufacturer jointly set a record with the National Aeronautical Association (NAA) and the FAI for the fastest round-the-world flight on a Gulfstream G IV in less than 45 hours and 25 minutes. The aircraft still holds that record in the C-1k category (where the takeoff weight of the aircraft is between 25,000 and 35,000 lbs.
